PostSubject: UU team Peaked #1 on TU   Tue Nov 02, 2010 2:17 pm

...not that anyone cares about the TU leaderboard
Introduction
Hello! This is my first UU RMT or any RMT for that matter and I am here to tell you stall isn't dead in UU yet. I use this team and so far had great results, but thay could be so much better with your help! Stall is not just slapping on 5 walls and a Chansey and calling it a day. It requires a unique thought process that relies much less on prediction than whittling down the opponent slowly. Very rarely do I let go of the momentum of the match and the pressure is, believe or not, rarely on me. Yes they could switch in physical attacker A on special Wall B, but physical wall A will force physical attacker A to leave, possibly giving momentum back to me and giving them chunks of residual damage. Against Offensive Teams, I set up entry hazards as quickly as possible to chip away at my opponent's health, furthered by poison and burns, and revolve my defensive core to force switches. Against the less common stall teams, I generally and shamelessly out stall them with residual damage and Rest. There is a lot of power in this team. not only is it very sturdy, I don't have to wait very long before things like poison permanently ends the opponent. Each of my players have a very good reason for being on the team and support the core well. One of the biggest problems with this team though, is that it relies too much on all of my Pokemon. I assign so many jobs to each Pokemon, to check that or set up this, if one Pokemon falls, another soon tumbles down with it. Another problem are wall-breakers. I tend to have to let Pokemon get badly hurt to stop them. Please be as hard as you can rating my team.

Team Building Process
I know I want a lot of Rest users so I need a Cleric. Clefable is bulky but I need something to sponge hits left and right as this is going to be hardcore stall. Chansey fits perfectly.

Obviously I'm going to need something to absorb the physical attacks thrown at Chansey. Weezing can cripple physical attackers. In comes the blob.

Most of my defensive core is now complete. At this point, I begin to prioritize moves like Stealth Rock and Roar over Pokemon slots. Registeel sets up rocks and tanks special hits, especially Psychic ones, for Weezing.

With my core complete, I need a way to support it now. With the switches they will bound to force, Spikes will help. At first I pick up Omastar as a lead, but then CM Clefable 6-0s me. Qwilfish can Explode on it and sets up Spikes as well with a faster Taunt. Also, not many people expect a stall team with a Qwilfish lead. It adds a little of the much wanted, not needed, speed to my team. The last nail in Omastar's coffin was Qwilfish's ability to absorb Toxic Spikes.

I need a spinblocker now. It's amazing how well Qwilfish and Spiritomb work together. Together they beat so many leads it's not even funny. Spiritomb blocks Rapid Spin and introduces no weaknesses to my team, although it gives few resistances. It also is one of the world's greatest Alakazam counters which beats Chansey and Registeel with repeated Specs Focus Blasts. Enter Spiritomb.

The glue needs to be my final piece. I look at all the UU Pokemon and I see Moltres and Houndoom crush me after Chansey dies, and even with Chansey, Spikes can beat it. I want Rapid Spin to help Chansey out. Blastoise can also phaze, which all stall teams desperately want. Most importantly, Blastoise can check Houndoom and Moltres. A +2 Timid LO Dark Pulse from Houndoom never OHKOs Blastoise even with Rocks while Surf always beats Houndoom with Rocks and LO damage. My turtle holds the team together. Yay the team is complete!

The Players
Qwilfish
Qwilfish@Focus Sash
Jolly: 4HP, 252Att, 252Spe
~Explosion
~Taunt
~Spikes
~Waterfall
The lead. It almost always gets 1 layer or more of Spikes each game. If it doesn't, then it Explodes on a scary opponent like CM Clefable. Explosion is my only check to CM Clefable, though it's a crappy check still. I use Taunt to stop set-up and Spikes so I can set up. Spikes help wear down the opponent and hits Pokemon that threaten me a lot, like Nidoking or Magmortar. Waterfall is good old STAB and hits Magmortar for super effective damage. Qwilfish outruns all Magmortar and Blaziken with max speed and hurts with max attack. I use poison point over swift swim to give me a 30% chance to beat sash leads if they make contact. Here's how I fare against the top 10 leads:
1)Ambipom- Spiritomb and Dark Pulse.
2)Uxie-Spikes. If Tricked, go to Registeel for Rocks. If not, more Spikes! If scarfed Uxie and decides to attack, I go to Registeel for Rocks after Spikes.
3)Mesprit-Same as Uxie.
4)Omastar-Taunt and then Spikes until I am about to die. Then I go to set up Rocks with Registeel.
5)Qwilfish-Taunt and pray I win the Speed tie. No plan if I lose.
6)Spiritomb-Spikes until I have only one more hit in me. Then set up Rocks.
7)Alakazam-Switch to Spiritomb and Dark Pulse.
8)Scyther-Spikes and then Weezing if they do not U-Turn.
9)Hippotas-Blastoise to take and Earthquake then drown and spin.
10)Cloyster-Spikes and Blastoise to spin away hazards.

Chansey
Chansey@Leftovers
Calm: 4HP, 252 Def, 252 SpDef
~Heal Bell
~Wish
~Seismic Toss
~Toxic
My special sponge, wisher, cleric, status absorber all in one fat pink lump. Heal Bell is there over Aromatherapy because it looks cooler in game, and Aromatherapy is illegal with Wish. It is very necessary to keep it because most of the time, at least one of my team members will be snoozing. Because each of my Pokemon have so many roles piled on them, I cannot afford to let them be incapacitated long. Wish is a great move, even without Protect because sometimes the slow pace of Rest just doesn't cut it for offensive teams my members have to go up against. Usually, if I predict a switch, I Wish and proceed to switch out or stay in. It's a win-win for me no matter what with Wish healing me at the end of the turn. Toxic is for stuff that tries to stall me out, or for stalling in general. It also cripples walls such as Milotic and Slowbro who think they can set up on me. Probably the most helpful Toxic has been for me is when I get a Sub-Seeder on the switch, eliminating many turns of stalling I would have to do with Registeel or Weezing. Seismic Toss is to hurt stuff that cannot recover for a small chunk of irreplaceable life. I use this as an end all special offense for the most part. I won't replace Heal Bell but I think I may drop Wish or Seismic Toss. Against heavy special attackers, like boosted Houndooms, Wish simply cannot heal fast enough. Counsidering this is my main Houndoom and Moltres counter, that's a problem. Advice here would be welcome.

Weezing
Weezing@Leftovers
Bold: 252 HP, 80 Def, 176 Spe
~Rest
~Will-o-wisp
~Sludge Bomb
~Fire Blast
Oh look, a typo. He has 176 SpDef, not 176 Speed. No that's no typo. Before I get flamed for the Spe, let me tell you why I use them. First a foremost, it outruns all Adamant Aggron, as well as the very rare max speed Adamant Azumarill. Also it outruns 4 Speed Milotic, getting the quick Sludge Bomb to kill it off, as well as beating any other base 80s who do not invest in speed. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, it beats thing who invest Speed to outrun 4 Speed Weezing. 80 Def and Bold means I'm still more physically bulky than specially defensive Weezing (which is dumb). Choice Scarf Heracross can only 4HKO me with Close Combat with leftovers so I can Rest it out. It just beats down any Fighting Pokemon which I love, bar Blaziken and Medicham. Rest helps stall out the opposition and heals me. Will-o-Wisp cripples physical attackers, usually on the switch. Sludge Bomb is my STAB, should I use ThunderBolt? Fire Blast nails things like Venasaur on the switch, 2HKOs with Rocks up. This is my primary check to anything physical. Unfortunately, it often just goes asleep to activate sleep clause. Chansey's Natural Cure stops sleep clause from activating which sucks. After Weezing is down, physical threats become much more scary and I play even more cautiously.
Registeel
Careful: 252 HP, 4 Def, 252 SpDef
~Stealth Rock
~Rest
~Iron Head
~Shadow Claw
This is a stalling monster. The most important move here is Stealth Rock, I usually set it up on things like Milotic and bulky waters in general. Shadow Claw is the only thing stopping Sub-ChargeBeam Rotom from eating my time alive (or dead). Shadow Claw always breaks's Rotom's 252 HP, 252 Def Substitutes. It can even out stall +6 Iron Heads from oppsing Registeel due to Stealth Rock's high PP. My special defense is maxed out in case Chansey somehow dies. Synergy-wise, this thing works great for the team. It gets many chances to switch in because special attacks are aimed at most of my team. Unfortunately most Psychic attackers have powerful Focus Blasts (read: Alakazam) and can break Registeel. Spiritomb helps me here. Iron Head is a STAB move, but does Seismic Toss help more?
Spiritomb
Spiritomb@Leftovers
Bold: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Spe
~Curse
~Will-o-Wisp
~Dark Pulse
~Rest
Once again, Curse is not a typo. Although Registeel can wall +6 Darkpulses from Monoattacking Spiritomb, pressure stalling will be the end of me. Curse though beats it by inflicting 25% damage every turn, not removed by Rest. Will-o-Wisp cripples physical attackers nicely though few are dumb enough to stay in. Dark Pulse is over Shadow Ball because is actually hurts all types, Normals included. Rest is a fun move, good since I have a sturdy cleric. It helps me stall even more since I have pressure already. Most importantly, this blocks common spinners like Donphan and Hitmontop. Although it has few resistances, it can take one hit from the likes of Moltres and kill with Dark Pulse hopefully, after Rocks and Life Orb. I'm not willing to change this Pokemon but perhaps the moves could be shuffled a bit?
Blastoise
Blastoise@Leftovers
Bold: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SpDef
~Roar
~Rapid Spin
~Surf
~Rest

This holds my team together, mainly giving me a good check to all fire Pokemon who can often incinerate my team. Roar is a phazing move, usually used on Feraligatr who try to set up on me. Rapid Spin is a must, since Chansey+Spikes+Fire Blast+Rocks=Cooked Eggs very soon. It actually can phaze and outstall +6 Registeel much like my Registeel can. Surf is for STAB. I really want to keep this set as is, only changing it to accomadate my team. This is the glue, I will not change the team to help this turtle.

Conclusion
Stall is easily one of the best play styles. In UU, attackers are much softer than in Standard, but some of the walls are just as defensive. Weezing's lack of instant recovery, like Skarmory, is nullified by Will-o-Wisp.Things like Feraligatr are no where as near as powerful or intimidating as Gyrados and Tyranitar. UU stall is then in theory, a popular choice. However, this is not the case. Stall takes too long says one! Stall has no skill cries another! Chansey is ugly retorts the last! There is no good reason why stall is not dominant among UU players. The only real problems for hardcore stall players then, are wall breakers and last Pokemon set up sweepers. Wall breakers either have huge offensive stats to break through a wall or use a mixed set, like Earthquake on Sceptile for Registeel. This can be easily remedied by smart switching and a team full of diverse walls. The last Pokemon can be handled by Curse or power in numbers or status. Stall is a great play style that requires little prediction. Just bring in Special Sponge A against Special Sweeper A. You gain momentum as they switch and should not be threatened by the moves you sponge. Complete win win for you. When you begin to gather more information about their team, then you make predictions. For example, you know a Nidoking has Superpower. You switch to Weezing to take it for Chansey and reduce its stats. You can then predict that it will use Superpower again as you have went through the cycle before, so you burn it. Now Chansey can wall the Nidoking and pass wish to Weezing as needed. Please, stall is probably the best play style now. That's all for now.

I COULD NOT CARE LESS IF YOU THINK YOU ARE A "NOOB" IF YOU CAN HELP RATE, YOU CAN HELP RATE!!

Exactly why I said "to me". I like variety. I'm probably gonna pick up NU. From Haydunn's YT videos, it looked cool.

Hey I beat that team. UU is not dead I beat people with my hax team all the time. Anyway usually the people who use PIF's team are noobs who want to have a good record and are too lazy to make their own. I do like NU though I have one heck of a Sandstorm team in it.

Wow!

Thanks for all of your wonderful in depth hard thought rates.

Thanks so much guys!
